104 Know all men by these presents that whereas I Catharine S M Ray of Anne Arundel County Maryland did on the 7th day of September in the year 1849 sell to John Henry Brice of Baltimore County in the state of Maryland a negro woman named Harriet and her daughter Fanny for a term of years and did execute a Bill of sale to the said Brice for the said negroes on the day above mentioned which said Bill of sale I did convey the said Harriet to the said Brice to serve time for the period of ten years from the date aforesaid and the said Fanny to serve the said Brice until the fifth day of October in the year 1876 at the expiration of which several periods the said negros Harriet and Fanny were to be manumitted and set free Now therefore for these and other good causes and considerations as also in further consideration of the sum of one dollar to the in hand paid and the receipt of which I do hereby acknowledge I have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery manumit and set free the said negroes Harriet and Fanny from and after the periods for which they were severally sold that is to say the said Harriet to be set free from slavery on the said seventh day of September in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty nine and the said Fanny to be free from and after the aforesaid fifth day of October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and seventy six from which said dates I do declare the said negroes to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever the said negroes being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifth day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty five Signed Sealed and delivered Catharine S M Ray (seal) in presence of Jno.
