100 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Jesse Grinage (free negro) of Anne Arundel County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving and especially in consideration that he is my son have declared released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named George Christopher Grinage aged about twenty four years able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance And him the said negro man named George Christopher Grinage I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators or assigns (Being the same boy purchased by me some years ago at the sale of Henry Megins personal property. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2nd day of January eighteen hundred and fifty three his Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Jesse X Grinage (seal) Jno G. Taylor Samuel Ridout of H mark Anne Arundel County Sct Be it remembered that on this second day of January in the year eighteen hundred and fifty five personally appears Jesse Grinage (free negro) party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for the said County and acknowledged the same to be his Act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned paid Acknowledged before Jno G Taylor 75 Recorded the 2nd day of January 1855 |
