74 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Charles Carroll of Carrollton of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also for the further consideration of five dollars Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Elizabeth being of the age of Eighteen years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman named Elizabeth I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 26th day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Eighteen Ch: Carroll of Carrollton (seal) Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of us Rich.d Caton, Cha.s Carroll Jun.r on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Received on the day of the date above mentioned the sum of five dollars Current money it being the full consideration money above mentioned Witness: anne arundel ss.s Be it remembered, That on this 26th day of may personally appears Charles Carroll of Carrollton party to the above instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the (peace) |
