72 Received on the day of the date above mentioned the sum of five dollars it being the consideration money mentioned in the above instrument of writing Witness Wm H marriott Benj.a Pindle Anna Arundel County sct Be it remembered That on this 15th day of may 1818 personally appears William H marriott party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the mulatto man within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Ex.d d.d Acknowledged before Benj.a Pindle Ch.d 3 Recorded the 15th day of may 1818 To all to whom it may concern Be it known that I George Barber & John T Barber of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations us thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five dollars Current money to us in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free our negro man named George Brown being of the age of Thirty five years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance (and) |
