71 me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned & the act of assembly in such case made and provided Ex.d d.d Taken & Certifyed before Ch.s Waters Ch.d 3 Recorded the 22d day of april 1818 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I William H marriott attorney at Law of the City of Annapolis in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my mulatto man named Tom Sands a Blacksmith by trade being of the age of forty two or forty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said mulatto man named Tom Sands I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 15 day of may in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Eighteen Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of: James Wm H marriott (seal) Clagett, Jon.a Weedon At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: |
