633 said Nicholas Johnson has performed his time of servitude if no ships are able to be found in the harbour of Maryland bound to Africa where our Coloured people are gone to reach in such case the said Nicholas Johnson is hereby authorised with this paper or a Certificate from the Clerk of ann Arundel county to the amount of this original manumission to press on from Maryland to any of the Northern parts for the sole purpose of procuring a ship bound to same settlement of Christian coloured people in Africa to make it his future home and residence I do declare that after the said Nicholas Johnson has performed his time of servitude Consistent with the laws of maryland in such cases that the said Nicholas Johnson shall be free as hereby is manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs Executors or administrators for ever In witness Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal thus Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of John O Battee Ann C Battee (seal) Saml H Hamilton On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Received on this day of the date within mentioned the sum of one dollars Current money it being the full consideration money mentioned within Ann C Battee Anne Arundel County to wit On this seventh day of February 1844 Personally appears Ann C Battee to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the sid county and acknowledges the same to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the servant man therein mentioned named to be free manumitted and discharged from |
