620 Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of us Saml H Hamilton Nathaniel Chew (seal) Daniel G Weems On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Received on the day of the date within mentioned five dollars Current money within mentioned Witness Saml H Hamilton Nathaniel Chew Daniel G Weems Anne arundel County sc Be it remembered That on this twentieth day of January personally appears Nathaniel Chew party to the within instrument of writing and known to us personally as the Identical person who has signed the foregoing deed of manumission before us the subscriber Justices of the peace for the State of maryland for the said County & acknowledges the same to be his act & deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negroes therein named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any persons claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the acts of assembly in such case made & provided Acknowledged before Saml H Hamilton Exd David G Weems 5½ Recorded the 5th day of February 1842 To all whom it may Concern Be it known that I Alexander J Murray of anne arundel County maryland for divers good causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of the sum of five dollars Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free my negro woman Peggy of the age of Thirty five years able to work and gain a sufficient livelyhood and maintenance and I do declare the said Negro (above) |
