615 grantor in the aforegoing deed of manumission and acknowledges the same to be her act and deed and the negroes therein mentioned or intended to be manumitted to be manumitted liberated and set free at the times therein mentioned according to the tenor and effect of said deed and of the acts of assembly in such case provided Exd Acknowledged before Thomas Snowden Ex.d d.d 9½ Recorded the 29 day of March 1841 Know all men by these presents that I Ann Franklin of anne arundel County The service of a female slave Nelly Tydings the daughter of Harry and Sophia Tydings & the wife of James Brown now able to gain her livelihood and of the age of twenty four years do hereby manumit and for ever set free her the said Nelly Tydings and I do hereby manumit and set free her infant son by the said James Brown as soon as he shall arrive at the age of twelve years or be able to gain a good and sufficient livelihood & maintain himself and do hereby declare that her said Infant son until he shall arrive at the said age of twenty years or be able as aforesaid shall serve his said mother and shall not be liable to be sold out of this State the said Son being called John Henry Brown In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3.d day of august 1841 Signed Sealed & delivered in Ann Franklin (seal) presence of Wm Glover R W Gill At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of maryland sct anne arundel County sct Be it known That on this third day of august Eighteen hundred and forty one before me the |
