appears John Maynard he being known to me
as a party to the within Instrument and acknowledges
the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein
mentioned and the negro woman Maria therein named
to be manumitted and discharged from all service to
him or to any claiming under him and to be free and
manumitted according to the act of assembly in such
case made and provided

      Know all men by these presents that whereas a
certain John Watson late of anne Arundel county devised
on the thirty first day of march in the year Eighteen hundred
and thirty one at ann arundel County maryland being
then possessed of a Coloured woman named Sarah Ann
Myers as a slave for life who was then recently married
or about to be married to a free Coloured man by the name
of William Sox made in Contract with said William Sox
by which Contract said Sox agreed to pay to said John
Watson the sum of two hundred dollars upon the
payment of which said sum of money the said John
Watson Covenanted and agreed to manumit the said
Sarah and any children which she might have and
whereas the said Sarah at the time of said Contract
had no Contract ^Children^ but since the date thereof hath given
birth to three Children who are now living and whereas
the said John Watson having departed this life in
the year Eighteen hundred and thirty four and William
J Ross having been appointed by the Orphans Court of
anne arundel county administrator on the personal
Estate of John Watson deceased and the whole of the
said money being paid by the said William Sox and
Sarah Sox and the said Sarah Sox having since
