600 To all whom it may concern Be it known That I Thomas Emory Sudler of anne Arundel county in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of one dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Sarah Lane being of the age of Twenty nine years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said Negro woman named Sarah Lane I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this nineteenth day of June in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and thirty nine Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of John S Selby Thomas Emory Sudler (seal) Edward Hopkins At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of one dollar current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Anne Arundel County to wit: On this nineteenth day of June personally appears Thomas Emory Sudler he being personally known to me party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro woman within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act |
