597 of the other part Witnesseth Whereas the said Alice being now of full age is the slave of the said Isaac Richardson by & according to the laws of maryland where she now is And whereas the said Isaac hath agreed to manumit the said slave in Consideration of her serving him for seven years from this date as a servant & waiter Therefore the said Alice for and in consideration of the manumission as hereinafter set forth doth Covenant promise & agree to & with the said Isaac Richardson & his assigns to serve him & his assigns faithfully as a servant and waiter for the purpose of learning the act & mystery of servant & waiter for the term of seven years from the date hereof in the State of Pennsylvania to which she is to be moved and to obey faithfully all his lawful Commands and to do all things that an apprentice is bound to do for a master And the said Isaac Richardson for and in consideration of the foregoing Covenants of the said Alice to be by her faithfully performed doth hereby manumit and set free the said Alice and remise release relinquish and quit claim to the said Alice all his right or interest in her as a slave under the laws of maryland. In Testimony whereof the parties have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day & year first aforesaid Sealed & delivered in presence Tho.s B Richardson of us "& his assigns" twice for interlined Isaac C Anderson Isaac Richardson (seal) Levi Chambers Tho.s Burgess her Alice X Doye (seal) mark On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of maryland Ann Arundle County sc.t On this fourth day of march 1839 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the County and State aforesaid personally appears Thomas B Richardson for Isaac Richardson and Alice (Doyle) |
