553 On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct On this 25.th September 1833 personally appeared before us the subscribers Justices of the peace of the state of Maryland for Anne Arundel County and acknowledges the aforegoing deed or Instrument of writing to be his act & deed according to the purport true intent and meaning thereof and we further certify that the said Henry Maynadier the grantor mentioned therein is personally known to us and is the identical persons named as grantor therein James Hunter paid Th G Waters 3 Recorded the 25.th day of September 1833 Whereas I Margaret Mercer of Anne Arundel County Maryland did on the 12.th day of February in the year 1827 execute a deed of Manumission in favour of negro Nelly Sparrow to take effect on the fifth day of January Eighteen hundred and thirty seven reserving to myself a property in the services of said negro Nelly until that time And whereas it is now my wish and intention to remit the said service due me and to set her absolutely free from this time Now know all men by these presents that I Margaret Mercer for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have manumitted liberated set free and discharged and by these presents do hereby manumit liberate set free and discharge from slavery or servitude the said Negro woman Nelly now aged about thirty one years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood & maintenance |
