524 assembly in such cases made and provided Ex.d d.d acknowledged before Lewis Sutton s.r chd 4 Recorded the 15.th day of March 1832 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Ruth Mercer of Anne Arundel County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of Sixty dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Charles being of the age of thirty six years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Charles I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this nineteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two Signed sealed and delivered Ruth Mercer (seal) in the presence of witness Richard Mercer of Andrew Nathan Shipley On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County to wit On this 19.th day of March 1832 personally appears Ruth Mercer party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland for the county aforesaid and acknowledges to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned |
