513 by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the said Samuel Hanson being of the age of thirty eight years and capable by labour to procure and gain a sufficient livelyhood and maintenance and him the said Samuel Hanson we do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to us our executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this fourteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two Signed sealed and delivered Charles Shorter (seal) in the presence of John Smith Jr (seal) Samuel S Hopkins Henry Matthews (seal) M W Conner On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit: On this fourteenth day of January Eighteen hundred and thirty two personally appears Charles Shorter John Smith Jur and Henry Matthews parties to the foregoing instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the seal of Maryland in and for anne arundel Count and acknowledges the same to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the said Samuel Hanson therein named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to them or any claiming under them to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before and certified by R Welch of Ben paid Justice of the Peace 4 Recorded the 14.th day of January 1832 |
