51 In Witness whereof I the said Sarah Norris have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of September in the year of Lord as above mentioned Eighteen hundred and seventeen Signed Sealed and delivered Sarah Norris (seal) in presence of Thomas Sellman Joseph Norris On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: anne arundel County to wit: on this 29th day of September 1817 Came Sarah Norris before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be her act and deed agreeably to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided Ch.d Acknowledged before Thomas Sellman 2½ Recorded the 1st day of October 1817 This Indenture Witnesseth that I Joseph R Hopkins of the City of Philadelphia in the State of Pennsylvania for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my negro woman named Kate being of the age of twenty three years of a healthy constitution sound in mind and body and capable by labor to procure sufficient food and raiment with other other requisites necessaries of life Provided that the said state shall continue to serve me as heretofore and in all things demean herself as a faithful and obedient servant to me until the first day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & twenty three In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this first day of October in the year of our (Lord) |
