505 of December 1831 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said Cty appears Perry G Mercer Executor of Zachariah Roberts deceased and Mary Roberts widow of said decd and acknowledged the above to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided chd Acknowledged before Nathan Shipley 2¾ Recorded the 21.st day of December 1831 To all whom it may concern be it known that we Richard M Chase and Robert Welch of Ben of the City of Annapolis in Anne Arundel County and state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations us thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free our negro man named Dennis Digges being of the age of forty years or thereabouts and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Dennis Digges aforesaid we do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to us our executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this twenty fourth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one Signed sealed and delivered R.d M Chase (seal) in the presence of us R Welch of Ben (seal) Th Franklin James Cleary At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Received on this 24.th day of Decem.r 1831 the sum of |
