504 County Sst on this 31 day of May 1831 appear'd Susanna Barber before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the state and County aforesaid and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be her act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided paid Gideon white 2½ Recorded the 8.th day of December 1831 This Indenture Witnesseth that I Perry G Mercer Executor of Zachariah Roberts deceased of anne arundel County & state of Maryland and Mary Roberts widow of said deceased for divers good causes and considerations us thereunto moving have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free our negroes namely Eliza and her child Rachel Ann being under the age of forty five years of age of a healthy constitution sound in mind and body and capable by labor to procure themselves sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries of life and we do hereby declare the said negroes Eliza & her daughter Rachel Ann to be henceforth free from the date hereof from us and each of us and our heirs Executors and administrators and from ever other person or persons whomsoever claiming or to claim by from or under us or either of us In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this nineteenth day of December 1831 Witness Nathan Shipley Perry G Mercer (seal) W B Mack Mary Roberts (seal) At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne arundel County to wit: On this 19.th day of |
