494 On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered that on this Eighteenth day of October Eighteen hundred and thirty one personally appears Nicholas Brewer Junior party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland for said county and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed paid William M.cNeir 2½ Recorded the 19.th day of October 1831 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Daniel Smith (colored man) of Anne Arundel county Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman Harriett Smith and twenty three years and her four children to wit Daniel aged six years Hagar aged four years Harriet aged two years and Henry aged three months all of whom were purchased by me of Doctor Martin Fenwick of Anne Arundel County and I do declare the said Harriet and her children Daniel Hagar Harriett and Henry to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this sixth day of July 1831 his Signed sealed & delivered in presence Danial X Smith (seal) of J F wilson Ezekiel Basford mark On |
