476 above instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned chd Gideon White 2¾ Recorded the 18.th day of February 1831 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Thomas T Simmons of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of Five Dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free on the First day of January Eighteen hundred and thirty three my negro man named Stephen being of the age of forty two years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Stephen I do declare from the time above mentioned to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or Administrators forever. In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Eighth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty one Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Th G waters Thomas T Simmons (seal) A H Green At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of Five dollars current money it being the full consideration money within Expressed Thomas T Simmons Anne Arundel County to wit: On this 8.th day of January 1831 personally appears Thomas T Simmons party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the county and acknowledges |
