475 freedom at the periods respectively appointed for the same and according to the acts of assembly in such case made and provided Acknowledged before Jos G Harrison chd 3½ Recorded the 9.th day of February 1831 Know all men by these presents that I Philip Clayton of the City of Annapolis Ann Arundel County State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as for the further consideration of Five Dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery manumit and set free from slavery my negro woman Polly Blake being of the age of Thirty seven years being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance on the following terms and conditions the said Polly Blake to be free in six years from the date hereof which will be on the Eighteenth day of February Eighteen hundred and thirty seven and her increase to be free at the age of twenty five years and she the said Polly Blake I do declare to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my Executors and administrators forever from and after the Eighteenth day of February Eighteen hundred and thirty seven In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this Eighteenth day of February Eighteen hundred and thirty one Sign'd seal'd and delivered in presence of Samuel Ridout Philip Clayton (seal) Gideon White At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Ann Arundel County ss On the 18.th day of February 1831 appeared Philip Clayton before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said county and acknowledged the above |
