46. the expiration specified in the aforegoing manumission In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty second day of august in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and seventeen Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of Joseph Evans (seal) James Hunter Henry Harwood nichs On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County to wit: on this 22nd day of august Eighteen hundred and seventeen personally appears Joseph Evans party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for said County and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the negroes therein named to be manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Ex.d d.d Acknowledged before James Hunter Chd 3¼ Recorded the 22d day of august 1817 Know all men by these presents that I John Francis mercer of the County of anne arundel and State of maryland for and in consideration of his uniform good conduct and particularly for his unremitted attention and faithful adherence to my son John mercer throughout a tour of two years over the Continent of Europe have from and after the fifteenth day of march One (thousand) |
