44. thousand Eight hundred and seventeen Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of James Hunter Joseph Phelps (seal) Christopher Hohne on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County sc. Be it remembered that on this sixth day of august 1817 personally appears Joseph Phelps party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro woman within named to be manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any person claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Ch.d Acknowledged before James Hunter 3¼ Recorded the 6th day of august 1817 Know all men by these presents that I Samuel C Watkins of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland have manumitted and set free from slavery and by these presents do manumit set free and discharge from slavery two negro Children the one named Sarah aged five years the other named Isaac aged three years and I the said Samuel C Watkins do hereby declare the said Sarah and Isaac to be free from slavery from the date of these presents In Witness whereof I the said Samuel C Watkins have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this 21st day of august Eighteen hundred and seventeen (signed) |
