420 thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negrow man named John Thomas being of the age of thirty years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negrow man John Thomas I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and dicharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators for ever In Testimony wareof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this first day of September in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and twenty Eight Signed Sealed & delivered Henry Lyon Davis (seal) In presents of Ezekiel Moseley John W Ringrose On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: Received on the day of the date above mentioned the sum of one Dollar current money It being the full consideration money within mentioned Test J. W. Ringrose H L Davis At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written To wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Ss: On this first day of September 1828 personally appears Henry Lyon Davice party to the within Instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in & for said County and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purpose within mentioned and the negrow man within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all service to him or to any (person) |
