365 State of Maryland for the said county and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro woman within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided paid Acknowledged before Joseph Norris 3¼ Recorded the 14th day of February 1827 Know all men by these presents that I Margaret Mercer of anne arundel county in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have manumitted liberated set free & discharged from slavery & do hereby manumit liberate set free & discharge from slavery my negro woman Nelly now aged about twenty five years. The said manumission to take effect when the said Nelly shall arrive at the age of thirty five years which period for greater certainty I now fix & declare to be the twenty fifth day of January Anno Domini eighteen hundred and & thirty seven at which time the said Nelly is to be free from all claim of myself my executors administrators and assigns. And whereas the said Nelly is intermarried with a certain James Sparrow and it is my wish & intention that any children which may be born of the said Nelly shall be free on certain conditions I do hereby manumit liberate set free & discharge from slavery any and every child that may be born of the said Nelly prior to the said twenty fifth day of January Anno Domini eighteen hundred and thirty seven provided the same James (Sparrow) |
