364 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Gassaway Winterson of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of forty Dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Maria Dennis (now Freeland) being of the age of twenty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman named Maria Dennis (now Freeland) I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this tenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Gassaway Winterson (seal) Joseph Norris John Phipps At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit Received on the day of the date above mentioned the sum of forty dollars current money it being the full consideration money above mentioned Gassaway Winterson (seal) Anne Arundel County to wit On this 10th day of January 1827 personally appears Gassaway Winterson party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the (State) |
