361 hundred and fifty dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man called Benjamin Smith being of the age of forty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Benjamin Smith I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this ninth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Tho W Turner (seal) S Gambrill E H Marriott At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit Received on the day of the date above mentioned the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars current money it being the full consideration money above mentioned Tho W Turner Anne Arundel County to wit On this ninth day of December personally appears Thomas W Turner party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the said county and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro man within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such Cases made and provided Acknowledged before S Gambrill Ex.d d.d Chd 3 Recorded the 15th day of January 1827 |
