in the last will and testament of Bennett Darnall late of
Portland Manor in Ann Arundel County in the State of
Maryland aforesaid deceased send greeting.   Whereas the said
Nicholas Darnall in and by a certain Instrument of writing
or title bond bearing date the twenty sixth day of April in
the present year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and twenty six and for the considerations therein mentioned
contract and agree to bargain and sell unto a certain
Claudius F Legrand his heirs and assigns forever all that
certain tract or parcel of Land whereon the said Bennett
Darnall in his life time resided called "Portland Manor"
which Philip Darnall and which the said Philip gave to the
said Bennett situate in ann arundel county in the State
of Maryland aforesaid believed to contain five hundred
and ninety six acres exclusive of a small part that adjoins
the land which the said Bennett purchased of his
nephew Philip Darnall which lays on the south side of a
fence and which small part being excepted out of the part
devised by the said Bennett Darnall to his son the said
Nicholas Darnall is not included in the said bargain and
sale &.c and it was a condition of the said bargain and
sale and was so agreed by and between the said Nicholas
Darnall and Henry Darnall on the one part and the
said Claudius F Legrand on the other part that the said
Land and premises and also the said Claudius F Legrand
his heirs and assigns and all and every of the future owners
of the said Land should be and remain charged with
and subject to and liable for the comfortable maintenance
and support both in sickness and in health upon the
said Land of the following named slaves now resideing
on the premises who are old and inform namely Jack
Nancy Nat Smith Peter Paul Nelly Nat Joice
