now aged twelve years since which time she has a daughter now
aged eight years named Rachel and a son aged six years named
ned least any dificulty might arise as to their freedom after
my decease   I hereby declare my said wife Cloe to be free
from bondage or slavery from the date hereof and my three
children above mentioned to be free when they shall arrive
at Lawful age but be it understood that if myself and my
said wife Cloe should die before my said children shall
arrive at lawfull age that they shall not be bound to serve
any other person      In testimony whereof I set my hand
and seal this 8th day April 1826            his

At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit
Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit   On the 8th day of
April 1826 came the above named John Roads (a Coloured
man) before me the subscriber and acknowledged the above
instrument of writing to be his act and deed and delivered
for the purpose therein mentioned

Know all men by these presents that I Henry
Maynadier of the City of Annapolis State of Maryland for
divers good causes and considerations and in further
consideration of one dollar in hand paid to me before the
ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof I do hereby
acknowledge have manumitted and set free and by
these presents do manumit and set free my negro slave
Susan Butler of about twenty five years of age and able
to gain her livelihood by labour such manumission
to take effect on the first day of september which will
