329 the negro woman and child within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Ch.d Acknowledged before Edward Warfield 5½ Recorded the 22d day of March 1826 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Richard G Stockett of anne arundel county in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Harry Matthews late the property of Benjamin Harwood deceased being of the age of thirty eight years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Harry Matthews I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty third day of March in the year eighteen hundred and twenty six Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of R G. Stockett (seal) James Shaw R. I. Cowman At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County to wit on the 23rd day of March 1826 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said county personally appeared the above named Richard G Stockett and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the negro man therein mentioned (to) |
