299 Know all men by these presents that I James Anderson of ann arundell County and state of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also for the sum of one dollar do hereby set free manumit and liberate my negro man Jacob aged about forty four years immediately on my decease and by these presents do declare and release from slavery on my decease the said slave Jacob who is in the hire and Employ of James McCulloch of Baltimore County and for the safety and security that the said Jacob shall not remain in slavery longer than my decease I hereby enjoin and require of my executors or any other or all persons claiming under me to procure to the said Jacob his freedom and to defend the same against all persons claiming or to claim In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of November one thousand eight hundred and twenty four signed sealed & delivered in presence James Anderson (seal) of Witnesses William D Merriken An.o Warfield At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit On the 17th day of November 1824 appeared James Anderson before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for ann arundle county and acknowledged the foregoing Instrument of writing to be his act and Deed for the purposes within mentioned and the acts of assembly in such case made and provided paid acknowledged before William D Merriken Ex.d d.d 2½ Recorded the 5th day of January 1825 This Indenture Witnesseth that I Rachel Snowden of Anne Arundel County and state of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of one dollar current money to (me) |
