282 me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and Deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the negroes therein named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made & provided paid acknowledged before R I Cowman 3 Recorded the 6 day of April 1824 To all whom it may Concern be it known that I William Brewer of the City of annapolis in the state of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of one dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby released from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro women one named Jane Gant being of the age of forty three years the other named Polly Gibson being of the age of thirty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and them the said negro women named Jane Gant and Polly Gibson. I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventh day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four signed sealed and delivered in the presence Wm Brewer (seal) James Hunter Thos H Hall (On) |
