278 discharged from all services to her or to any claiming under her and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in Such Cases made and provided paid acknowledged before Caleb White 3 Recorded the 27th day of March 1824 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Samuel S Hopkins of anne arundel County and state of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of Ten Dollars Current money to me in hand paid have released from Slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the following negroes to wit my woman Nancy aged Twenty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance to be free from the date. Thomas the Son of Nancy aged six years to be free on the first day of January Eighteen hundred and thirty nine and William the Son of Nancy aged four years to be free on the first of January in the year Eighteen hundred and forty one and them the said negroes named Nancy Thomas & William I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors administrators or assigns forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Twenty sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Twenty four signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Gerrard R Hopkins Saml S Hopkins (seal) Richard Hopkins (At) |
