270 by labour to procure to herself sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessary of Life from and after the third day of June in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty three and if during continuance of the servitude of the said Charity she shall have any issue of her Body begotten then I do hereby determine and Grant and agree that the state or condition of the said issue shall be that of freedom and I do hereby manumate and set free the said issue as they arrive to the age of twenty one years In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 5th day of June 1823 Witness John H Williams Stephen Beard (seal) Jos Nicholson Anne Arundel County sc to wit Acknowledged before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County by the above named Stephen Beard as his act and Deed this 5th day of June in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty three Chd Joseph Nicholson 2½ Recorded the 4th day of August 1823 This Indenture Witnesseth that I Nathaniel Chew of anne arundel County & State of Maryland for and in consideration of one cent to me in hand paid at & before the ensealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released from slavery manumitted & set free my negro woman named Sukey being under forty five years of age of a healthy Constitution sound in mind and body and Capable by Labour to procure to her sufficient food & raiment & other requisite necessaries of life.
