269 her sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries of life In Witness whereof we have hereto set our hands and affixed our seals this fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Jno Claude (seal) The interlineations being first made D Claude (seal) Jno W Duvall Gideon White J.r At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered that on this twenty sixth day of april in the year eighteen hundred and twenty three personally appear John Claude and Dennis Claude grantors within named before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledge the within Deed or instrument of writing to be their act and Deed and the mulatto woman thereby manumitted and set free to be liberated manumitted and set free according to the act of assembly in such Case made and provided Chd Gideon White Ex.d d.d 2½ Recorded the 31st day of July 1823 This Indenture Witnesseth that I Stephen Beard of anne arundel county in the state of Maryland in consideration of the sum of one cent to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my negro child named Charity being of the age of one year of a healthy constitution sound in mind and body and promises (by) |
