271 name and affixed my seal this thirteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty three signed sealed & delivered in presence of Nathaniel Chew (seal) Walter Chew Nathaniel Chew J.nr On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County ss Acknowledged before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for said County by the within named Nathaniel Chew as his act and Deed this fifteenth day of September 1823 paid Joseph Norris 2 Recorded the 18th day of September 1823 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Matilda Ridgely (widow of Henry Ridgely late of anne arundel County deceased) of the City of annapolis in the county aforesaid in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of the sum of one Dollar money of the United States to me in hand have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my mulatto woman named Nan or nancy being of the age of about thirty five years and also the daughter of the said nan a mulatto called Ann nancy being of the age of seven years both of which said slaves are able to work & gain a sufficient livelihood & maintenance and her the said mulatto woman & her said daughter I do hereby declare to be henceforth free & manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to my my executors or administrators (forever) |
