216. Levi Lanham party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for said County and acknowledges the same to be be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro woman and Child within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledge before Edward Warfield Rec.d on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of One Dollar Current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Ex.d his Ch.d Levi X Lanham 3¼ Recorded the 17.th day of October 1821 To all whom it may concern Be it known That I Benjamin Badger a free man of Colour of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free a Yellow woman named Hess aged about forty two years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance which said Yellow woman named Hess I purchased of a certain William H Marriott of the City of (annapolis) |
