211. money within mentioned Witness Benjamin Sunderland John H D Lane anne arundale County to wit: On this twenty fourth day of march personally appears Benjamin Sunderland party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro man within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided paid Acknowledged before Rezin Estep 2¾ Recorded the 22d day of September 1821 This Indenture Witnesseth That whereas it appears from papers in the hand writing of the late John Galloway of Tulip Hill that he heretofore set free his negro slave maria Boston being under forty five years of age of a healthy constitution sound in mind and body and Capable by labour to procure to her sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries of life together with her issue and whereas sufficient Evidence does not appear or is lost to substantiate the above fact now to leave no doubts with respect to the freedom of said maria and her Children Sarah Galloway and Virgil maxcy of Tulip Hill in anne arundel County and State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of One Cent to them in hand paid before the ensealing and (delivery) |
