200 To all whom it may concern Be it known That I Thomas Jiams of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five shillings Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro Girl named maria Jiams being of the age of fifteen years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negroe Girl named Maria I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty one Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of his Lewis Tinges Thomas X Jiams (seal) John E Pettibone mark on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County ss. Be it remembered That on this twenty second day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty one personally appears Thomas Jiams party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the (negro) |
