199 Maryland to wit: This Indenture Witnesseth that I Polly marr of ann arundel in the State of maryland aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of One Cent to me in hand paid before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released from slavery my son Edward marr (bought by me from a certain John Pitts of Frederick County as will appear by receipts in my possession) and manumitted and him set free and do by these presents release from slavery the said Edward marr (a coloured lad) and under the age of forty five of a constitution sound in sane mind and body and Capable by labour to procure to himself sufficient food and raiment and other requisite necessaries of life In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal first of June 1821 his Witnesses Arch Dorsey Polly X marr (seal) Jane L Dorsey mark on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Maryland ann arundel County to wit June 1.st 1821 Then came Polly marr before me a Justice of the peace in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be her act and deed and the above named Edward marr to be free according to the true meaning and intention of the same Archibald Dorsey June 1.st 1821 I do hereby Certify that the purchase money for the above Edward marr was paid thro me to John Pitts Ch.d Arch.d Dorsey 2¾ Recorded the 4th day of June 1821 |
