198 april 1821 personally appears Henry Basford before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledged the within manumission or instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided paid Gideon White 3¼ Recorded the 24th day of april 1821 Maryland to wit: This Indenture Witnesseth That I Polly marr of anne arundel County State aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of One Cent to me in hand paid at & before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released from Slavery James marr (bought by me from John Pitts of Frederick County) manumitted and him set free and do by these presents release from slavery the said James marr (a colored man) under the age of forty five and of a Constitution hale and sound in body as well as in mind and Capable of procuring to himself sufficient food & raiment and all the other necessaries of life In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and put my seal this first day of June 1821 Arch Dorsey his Jane L Dorsey Polly X Marr (seal) mark on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Maryland ann arundel County to wit June 1: 1821. Acknowledge before me one of the Justices for said County by the above Polly marr as her act and deed Ch.d Arch Dorsey 2 Recorded the 4th day of June 1821 |
