185 To all whom it may Concern Be it known that I Eliza Hammond of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of five dollars Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Nicholas Scott being of the age of thirty five years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named nicholas Scott I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventh day of march in the year Eighteen hundred and twenty one Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of us Wm H Baldwin Eliza Hammond (seal) Charles Hammond on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County to wit: Be it remembered That on this seventh day of march in the year Eighteen hundred and twenty one personally appears W.m Eliza Hammond party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the said deed or instrument of writing to be her act and deed for the purposes (within) |
