178 On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: anne arundel County to wit: On this twelveth day of January Eighteen hundred and twenty one personally appears mary merriken party to the above instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negroes above mentioned at the expiration of their respective terms of servitude as above stated to be manumitted and discharged from all services to her the said mary merriken or any claiming under her and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided paid Henry Duvall Ex.d d.d Acknowledged before 3¼ Recorded the 13th day of January 1821 An Act to authorise the Clerk of anne arundel County to record a deed of manumission Whereas it is represented to this General assembly that John Gibson late of anne arundel County deceased by his certain deed of manumission bearing date the twenty ninth of June Eighteen hundred and nineteen did manumit a certain negro woman named harriett purchased by him from one Robert Tuite late of Queen annes County deceased to be free at a future period recorded by mistake in Queen anne's County; Therefore Be it enacted by the General Assembly of maryland That the Clerk of anne arundel County shall record the said deed of manumission or a Certified Copy thereof ^together^ with a Copy of this (law) |
