171 on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Received on the day of the date above mentioned the sum of one dollar Current money it being the full consideration money above mentioned Bain Warfield (seal) Anne Arundel County to wit: On this Eleventh day of July 1820 personally appears Bain Warfield party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Chd Acknowledged before Edward Warfield 3¼ Recorded the 13th day of July 1820 To all whom it may Concern Be it known that I Richard Brown of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one Dollar to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro boy George Smothers being of the age of six years to be free the first day of may Eighteen hundred and thirty seven of healthy and sound body and improveable mind and him the said George Smothers I do declare to be from thenceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude to me my Executors or administrators forever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this second day of June in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and twenty (signed) |
