169 At the foot of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundle County to wit: On this twenty second day of June personally appeared Eleanor Clark party to the above instrument of writing before me Justice of the peace of the County aforesaid deed of the State of maryland and acknowledges the same to be her act and deed for the purposes above mentioned and the negro woman above mentioned to be free henceforth manumitted and discharged from all service to her or any claiming under her an to be free & manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided paid Acknowledged before Richard G Hutton Ex.d d.d 2½ Recorded the 11th day of July 1820 This Indenture Witnesseth That I Clement Davis of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my woman Slave named Betty now in my possession In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this first day of July Eighteen hundred and twenty Signed Sealed & delivd his in presence of Clement X Davis (seal) Rezin Estep mark Gassaway Pindell On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County sc Clement Davis (appeared) |
