159 and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro boy named Bett being about twelve years and six months old and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance to be free when he arrives to the age of thirty five years on the fourth day of November Eighteen hundred and forty two and him the said Negro boy named Bill I do declare to be free on the fourth day of November in the year Eighteen hundred and forty two and from that time to be manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fourth day of may Eighteen hundred and twenty Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Benjamin Wells Joseph Bucey (seal) Robert Franklin on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: anne arundel County to wit: On this fourth day of may Eighteen hundred and twenty personally appears Joseph Bucy party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a justice of the State of maryland for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro within named to be at the expiration of the time within mentioned to be manumitted and discharged from all service to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Chd Acknowledged before Robert Franklin Ex.d 3½ Recorded the 5th day of may 1820 |
