151 January 1820 appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid the above named Jerningham Drury party to the above instrument of writing who acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and the signature to be respectively his Chd Acknowledged before Lewis Sutton Ex.d 3¼ Recorded the 7th day of march 1820 Know all men by these presents that I John Hall Dorsey son of Joshua of ann arundel County in the State of maryland being possessed of a Negro slave named Juliet and I the said John Dorsey being willing and desirous to grant to the said slave her freedom do by these presents for divers good causes and Considerations manumit and set free the said negro slave in the manner hereafter mentioned that is to say the freedom of the said negro Juliet to commence and take effect on the twenty seventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty seven and I the said John Dorsey for myself my heirs Executors and administrators do by these presents grant to the aforesaid negro Juliet her freedom to take place at the time heretofore set forth and expressed.
