145 of the Children of the said Judy and Kitty to be free at the age of thirty years I do declare the said negroes to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs Executors administrators or assigns for ever in the terms and time above mentioned In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this twenty sixth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & twenty (Interlined "five" in 9.th line "to serve" in 14th line "the said negroes" in 18.th line." Sign'd Seal'd & deliver'd in presence of Gideon White Stephen Beard (seal) Caleb White At the foot of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Receiv'd on the day of the date above mentioned forty dollars it being the full consideration money within mentioned Stephen Beard (seal) Witness Gideon White Ann Arundell County to wit: On the 26th day of January Eighteen hundred & twenty personally appears Stephen Beard party to the above instrument of writing before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the negroes above named to be free and manumitted on the time and terms above stated from all service to him or to any claiming under him according to the true intent and meaning of said instrument of writing and the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided James Hunter Chd Ex.d 5 Recorded the 26th day of January 1820 |
