144 that on this 25th of January Eighteen hundred and twenty appeared Elijah Pennington before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the aforegoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Chd Before James Hunter Ex.d 3 Recorded the 25th day of January 1820 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Stephen Beard of ann arundell County and State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of forty dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and ^set^ free my negroes herein after named on the following terms to wit Jacob aged thirty seven years to be free in seven years from the date hereof, Harry aged thirty six years to be free in Eight years, John aged twenty five to be free in nine years, Nick aged seven years to serve twenty three years from the date hereof Peter aged five years to serve twenty five years from the date hereof, Charles aged three years to serve twenty seven years from the date hereof, Colbert two years old to serve twenty Eight years from the date hereof, Henry aged one year to be free in twenty nine years from the date hereof, Judy aged Eighteen years to serve twelve years from the date hereof Kitty aged fourteen years to serve to sixteen years from the date hereof and the issue of the said negro women Judy and Kitty to be free when they arrive at the age of thirty years and the issue (of) |
