143 be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Chd Acknowledged before John Johns Ex.d 3 Recorded the 18th day of January 1820 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Elijah Pennington of ann arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Nel or Ellen Young being of the age of forty one years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman named Nel or Ellen Young I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors and administrators for ever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 25th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Elijah Pennington (seal) James Hunter John W Beard On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of One Dollar Current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Elijah Pennington (seal) Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered (that) |
