126 presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my two negro men William Chalmers and Basil Smith William aged about thirty two and Basil about thirty four years both of healthy Constitutions sound in body and mind and Capable by labour to procure to themselves sufficient food and raiment and other requisite necessaries of life from and after the twenty fifth day of november in the year Eighteen hundred and twenty seven. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of September Eighteen hundred and nineteen Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Tho.s Furlong Sarah Ann Hatherly (seal) Wm Brown On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County to wit: Acknowledged before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for the county aforesaid by the above named Sarah A Hatherly as her act and deed this 10th day of September 1819 Tho.s Furlong ch.d Ex.d 2¼ Recorded the 11th day of September 1819 This Indenture Witnesseth that I Joseph R Hopkins of the city of Philadelphia Counsellor at law for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my negro man Benjamin Bacon being under forty five years of age of a healthy constitution sound in mind and body and Capable by labour to procure to him sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries of life In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand & seal the twenty fifth day of September in the year (of) |
